WNC schedules fund-raiser at Edmonds

Western Nevada College’s softball team has scheduled a 5K fund-raising run for Oct. 14 at the Edmonds Sports Complex.The softball team is financed through private fund-raising. The money is used to help defray travel costs. Last season, the Wildcat surpassed the 20-win mark for the first time in the four-year history of the program.The cost of the race is $30, which includes a T-shirt. Everest was third in the 1,000 free, fourth in the 2300 free, sixth in the 200 back, seventh in the 400 IM and eighth in the 100 back. Rauch was fourth in the 200 back and seventh in the 100 free. Pittman was fourth in the 400 IM, fifth in the 200 breast and seventh in the 100 breast.Ashley Meyers had 14 points in the 13-14 age group thanks to a second in the 200 butterfly, third in the 1000 free and a fourth in the 1650 free.Tallon Rauch scored 15 points in the 15-16 boys age group. He had a third in the 200 back and was fourth in the 100 back and 200 free. Jeremiah Hessig had 14 points as did Dagen Kipling. Both swim in the 13-14 age group. Kipling won four events — 500 free, 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and 200 IM. Hessig was second in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 50 free. POP WARNERTiny Mites beatReno Wolf PackThe Carson Pop Warner Tiny Mite Blue beat a tough Reno Wolf Pack team in Carson Saturday 12-6. Quarterback Zach Guthrie scored both TDs for Carson. Backs Tyler LaFollette and Jessie Delgado, center Jessie Metoxen and guard Drake Hardcastle opened large holes for the Carson running game. The defense allowed an early score and then shut down Reno the rest of the way. Ends Isiah Ortega and Alex Myrehn, LBs Alex Castillo and Damian Morris, and DBs Eric Pool and Quentin Beck all came up with huge tackles for Carson.Carson Unlimited topsSparks, 12-6The Carson Pop Warner Unlimited team improved its record to 2-1 Saturday with a win over the Sparks Wolfpack 12-0.Johnny Cavilia scored on Carson’s first drive following a nice punt return by Dennis Krueger. The Senators found the end zone later in the half on a touchdown pass from Justin Lopez to tight end Conner Larkin. Penalties and turnovers stalled other Carson drives inside Wolfpack territory. A strong defensive performance was turned in by Donald Hurst, John Rowe, Sevon Mandoki, Jarod Butler, Cavilia and Larkin. Carson plays at home Saturday against Fallon. Douglas TigersCarson edges Douglasin 8-6 defensive battleCarson knocked Douglas from the ranks of the unbeaten with an 8-6 win Saturday at Governors Field.Douglas took a quick 6-0 lead, but Carson was able to block the two-point conversion kick.Carson drove to Douglas’ 10 on a punt return by Wyatt Rooker, but the Senators turned it over on an interception. Two plays later, Rooker picked off a Douglas pass to get the ball back for the Senators.Carson finally broke through in the fourth quarter on Seth Werley’s long run. Navarro led the way against Eagle Valley with 12.GYMNASTICSSilver State fares well at Grass Valley meetSilver State Gymnastics Academy’s Level 3 and Level 4 squad won their respective team titles at a meet in Grass Valley over the weekend.Annika Bruketta in her first meet ever, led the way by finishing second on vault and bars, and first on beam and floor to capture the first place all-around (AA) medal in Level 3. Bruketta was closely followed by Gracie Walt who placed first on vault and bars, second on beam, third on floor, and second AA. Josie McIntosh had a third on bars and a second place on floor to capture third place AA. Sara Mitchell, who was also competing in her first meet, finished third on vault and beam to take home the fourth place AA award. Their combined effort won them the first place level three team title.At Level 4, Elle Liebendorfer took home top AA honors by placing first on bars, and second on vault and floor. Emily Lewis won first place on the balance beam, while Elianna King finished second on beam. In the middle division, Rosalia Daulerio placed first on vault and floor, second on bars, and finished second place AA. In the older division Hailey Glynn took top honors by winning beam and floor. Third place AA was Alicia Hellwinkel, who won first place on floor and third place on beam. Madison Adams had a solid third place finish on floor exercise. Their combined efforts won the first place team award at level 4.Isabella Daulerio was the high finisher at Level 5 with a second-place medal on vault. Lily Reid was the lone entry at Level 6, and she won first place on beam and floor, and took second on vault and third on bars. In the end she prevailed over a tough field of competitors to take home the first-place AA award.GOLFCharity golf tournamentset for Oct. 12 The first-ever NevadaFit4Kids Charity Golf Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 12th with a 9 a.m. shotgun start at Eagle Valley West. Entry fee is $100, which includes a tri-tip dinner and raffle to win either a Costa Rica trip for two or $1,500 cash. NevadaFit4Kids is a partnership with Silver State Youth Sports and MEFIYI (Me-for-Incredible-Youth, Inc.) whose mission is to generate community awareness, healthy activities and support concerning child obesity.
