Search continues for missing, possibly endangered Carson City man

The search for a Carson City man who has been missing and possibly endangered since Wednesday continued Friday by ground and air.

William McCune, 62, failed to board a plane Thursday and did not show up for work Wednesday, leading his co-workers to call police. When a deputy saw inside his apartment, it appeared a violent confrontation had taken place with blood spattered throughout, Sheriff Ken Furlong said. The Villas of Dolphin Bay Apartments, where the possible altercation occurred, is in the 700 block of Silver Oak Drive.

McCune is described as a white man, 5 feet, 9 inches tall and bald, with blue eyes.

The crime scene investigator has been working for the past two days and is expected to finish processing the crime scene this weekend. None of the evidence has been yet analyzed, Furlong said.

The investigator told Furlong it is the most intensive scene he has investigated in 25 years, the sheriff said.

“We’re still in the collection phase,” Furlong said.

The violent confrontation inside the apartment appears to have been some kind of domestic matter. There is no sign of forced entry, he said.

Once the evidence collection is finished, the work of finding out what is missing can start. At the same time, the sheriff’s office is still searching for witnesses who had contact with McCune in the past week.

The Search and Rescue team scoured the hills and canyons around Carson City Thursday and around north Carson on Friday, searching for McCune or his 2000 maroon Dodge Dakota pickup with tinted windows and license plate 769XTL. Search efforts will continue to today.

“The big thing, we’re looking for is his truck,” Furlong said.

“We’re treating it as foul play,” Capt. Ken Sandage said. “The sheriff’s office is taking every precaution and will collect biological evidence, including blood, that would be otherwise lost in its current form.”
