Body found in Carson River is missing insurance examiner’s

A blanket-wrapped body found Saturday morning in the Carson River has been identified as that of the missing chief insurance examiner, who was reported missing April 4.

The body was identified as William McCune’s after dental records and X-rays were sent by his next of kin, identified as an ex-wife, a daughter and a son, Carson City Undersheriff Steve Albertsen said.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office found his missing pickup, a maroon 2000 Dodge Dakota, Monday afternoon. The truck was found near Holbrook Junction and will be processed for evidence after it is towed to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office’s vehicle yard, Albertsen said.

“We got information on where it was, but they (the suspects) were saying different things,” such as that the truck was in Lyon County, not Douglas, Albertsen said.

Four people have been charged with murder: Makyla Blackmore, 20, Raul Garcia, 22, Anthony Elliot, 20, and Michael Evans, 23. Blackmore, Garcia and Elliot were arrested in Las Vegas on warrants issued out of Carson City, and Evans was arrested in Carson City. All four were arrested Saturday.

Evans told detectives he was with two unspecified friends at a motel in Carson City, and the pair discussed their desire to rob McCune. The friends drove him to Walmart to buy duct tape to tie up McCune, Evans said.

The pair instructed him to knock on McCune’s door and ask to use the restroom the night of April 2, Evans said. McCune lived at the Villas at Dolphin Bay apartments in the 700 block of Silver Oak Drive, according to the arrest report.

McCune offered Evans an alcoholic drink and the two were drinking when the other two, unspecified, assailants arrived and the three “started to beat up (McCune),” according to the report. McCune put up a struggle, so the three tied him up with duct tape and asked him for the personal identification number for his bank accounts, Evans told detectives.

When a deputy, and then detectives, arrived at McCune’s apartment, there were obvious signs of a violent struggle and blood was on the walls and floors. The crime-scene investigator described it to Sheriff Ken Furlong as the most intensive he has worked in his 25-year career.

They suspects left the apartment in McCune’s pickup, which had been loaded with items taken from his residence, according to the arrest report. They knew when they departed that McCune was dead, the report states.

Evans reportedly told detectives that the suspects attempted to clean up the apartment April 3 and then threw materials into a trash bin at the apartment complex. They then backed up McCune’s car to the apartment, dragged his body out, put it into the car and dumped it in the Carson River, he reportedly said, then drove back to the apartments and parked the car in the adjacent complex.

They then drove around Reno and Carson City and attempted to use McCune’s debit cards and wrote checks from his bank account, Evans allegedly said.

Garcia, Blackmore and Elliot are due to be seen by a judge in Las Vegas today.
