The time for this year’s National Day of Prayer, which is held on the first Thursday of each May on the steps of the State Capitol and hosted by the governor, has been changed to avoid a potential conflict.

The prayer gathering will run from 11 a.m. until about 11:45 a.m. May 2, an hour earlier than normal.

The Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Service begins at noon at the memorial site on the Capitol grounds.

The time change will allow people to attend both services, said Pat Propster, senior pastor of Calvary Chapel Carson City and president of the Carson City Ministerial Association, which coordinates the prayer service.

The association changed the time “out of love respect and honor to the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Service,” Propster said in a written statement.

“These two events are of major importance to our community,” he said. “One is to seek the heart of God for a nation and the other is to help us honor Nevada’s finest.”

The theme for the 2013 National Day of Prayer is “In His name the nations will put their hope,” Matthew 12:21.
