Prep roundup Carson High swimmers sweep Spanish Springs

Carson High’s swim teams swept Spanish Springs Friday afternoon at the Carson Aquatic Center.

The boys won 163-94, and the girls triumphed 148-38.

Gary Showalter and Tallon Rauch led Carson’s boys with two individual wins each. Showalter won the 100 free in 55.68 and the 100 breaststroke 1:06.71. Rauch won the 200 IM (2:14.59) and the 100 back (59.50. Showalter swam on the winning 200 free relay and the 200 medley teams, while Rauch was on the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay.

Dagen Kipling won the 200 free (1:53.49) and took second in the 100 back (1:02.11). He also swam on the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay. Casey Garrett won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.34 and was third in the 100 breast (1:12.36). Cory Gentner took second in the 100 and 200 free, clocking a 56.57 and 2:05.81, respectively. Drew Briggeman had a second in the 50 free (27.76) and a third in the 500 free (6:57.91). Andrew Cowan had a third in the 100 free (1:07.34).

Abi Pittman led the Carson girls with two individual wins, while Vanessa Rauch, Ashley Meyer and Elizabeth Everest each won one event.

PRESTON TAKES 4TH

EUGENE, Ore. — Sophomore Madison Preston leaped 35-5 1/4 to finish fourth in the triple jump at the Oregon Relays Friday night at University of Oregon’s Hayward Field.

The meet, which features high school and college athletes, concludes today.

The next best CHS finish was turned in by Elena Thurman, who was eighth in the triple jump with a mark of 34-2 3/4. Distance runners Alex Drozdoff (10:57.55) and Cindy Juchtzer (11:01.24) finished 14th and 15th, respectively, in the 3,000 meters.

On the boys side, Corey Reid was 10th in the high jump with a mark of 6-feet. The distance medley team of Zach Heinz, Dexter Cummings, Dakota Baker and Taylor Bradshaw were 11th in 11:06.48.

CARSON HOSTS WOOSTER

The Carson girls, fresh off a 1-0 loss to North Valleys and fighting for their playoff lives, host Wooster in a Sierra League doubleheader starting at 10 a.m.

The Senators are 2-6 in league play as they fight to hold down the fourth spot. Jen Purcell is expected to start one of the games for Carson.

CHS VISITS RENO

Carson High takes its 7-7 league record into a road doubleheader against the Reno Huskies today. Action gets under way at 11 a.m. Coach Bryan Manoukian said that Jace Zampirro would start one game. The other starter could be Brandon Allen, Dustin Dutcher or Danny Guthrie.

WNC RAINED OUT

The Western Nevada College softball team was rained out of its Friday road doubleheader at North Idaho College. The teams will attempt to play three games today start at 9 a.m. weather permitting.

WNC coach Leah Wentworth said there was a 60 percent chance of rain on Saturday.
