Musician John Shipley will present a lecture about the history of rock and roll from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Brewery Arts Center Ballroom, 449 W. King St.
The lecture will include demonstrations with slides and audio samples. Shipley will introduce the audience to the musical styles, voices and performers from the early blues to the 1980s. The presentation will conclude with questions and comments from the audience and the raffle of a Squier by Fender electric guitar.
Shipley is a jazz pianist, conductor, arranger, songwriter, producer and recording artist and a founding member of the Jazz-Fusion group Hiroshima. He is musical director for the Motown session musicians The Funk Brothers. He teaches piano and other music courses at Western Nevada College.
The lecture is part of the 2013 Jazz & Beyond: Carson City Music Festival and presented by the Mile High Jazz Band Association and the Brewery Arts Center with public funding through a grant from Nevada Humanities. Admission is free.
