John Bernard Carlsen III, deeply loved son, father and brother, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2013. He was surrounded by his family in Sparks, Nevada. Born on June 17, 1962, John was the son of the late Bernard and Theresa Carlsen of Carson City, Nevada. He had been a Spanish Springs, Nevada, resident for over 25 years.
John was preceded in death by his parents. John’s family includes son, Brad Carlsen and fiancée, Stephanie Shuman (Sparks, Nevada); daughter, Jaci Carlsen (Sparks, Nevada); partner, Jenn Ward, and her children, Jake and Jordan Ward (Sparks, Nevada). John leaves behind his two brothers, Reggie Carlsen and wife, Sue (Winnemucca, Nevada), Dave Carlsen and wife, Joanne (Carson City, Nevada); and sister, Barbara Carlsen Smeland and husband, Chris (West Point, New York); as well as a large extended family.
John worked as a salesman for the Morrey Distributing Company in Sparks, Nevada. He was a passionate outdoorsman, who treasured outdoor moments with his family. John’s avid love for hunting eventually led him to be honored as Vice President of the “Silver Arrow Bowmen.” John enjoyed his time as a referee for middle school through college-aged sports, and dedicated many years to coaching baseball. He was well-respected for those efforts. John was extremely proud of his French Basque heritage. He loved life, and lived each day to the fullest.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 17, 2013 at 10:30 am at Immaculate Conception Church, 2900 N. McCarran Blvd., Sparks, Nevada. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows or the American Cancer Society would be welcomed in John’s name.
