The Kit Carson Toastmasters Club offers assistance programs for Carson High School senior projects and ESL students.

Carson High School seniors are invited to become a member for the school year to conduct research about communication and leadership for senior projects.

Annual fundraiser is set for Boys & Girls Clubs

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Western Nevada will hold its annual kids auction and luau fundraiser from 3 to 7 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Pony Express Pavilion at Mills Park.

Former Carson City mayor Marv Teixeira will be featured along with original board members of the club. There will be live and silent auctions and a raffle for a trip to Hawaii and a 2012 Toyota Tacoma.

Dutch oven cooking class is Saturday

Washoe Lake State Park will host an introduction to Dutch oven cooking class from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Aug. 24 at the Washoe Lake State Park Main Group Reservation Area.

Local Dutch oven cooking experts from the Northern Sierra Dutch Oven Group will lead participants in preparing main entrees and desserts such as cobbler and Mississippi Mud Cake. The class is a hands-on audience participation program.

Swing dance party and lesson is set

High Sierra Swing Dance Club will present its monthly dance party 8-10:30 p.m. Aug. 24 in the ballroom at the Brewery Art’s Center, 449 W. King St. Tim Renner will teach an intermediate West Coast Swing lesson at 7 p.m.

Highway clean-up is set for Saturday

The Carson City Democratic Women’s Club will hold a Highway 395 clean-up on Aug. 25. Participants will meet in the parking lot at Carson Lanes, 4600 Snyder Ave., at 7:30 a.m.

Migratory bird hunters required to get HIP numbers

Nevada Department of Wildlife requires hunters of migratory birds to register for a Harvest Information Program validation number.

The Harvest Information Program provides estimates of the number of migratory birds harvested throughout the country. Migratory birds include doves, ducks, geese, swans and snipe.

Hunters age 12 or older are required to display HIP numbers on hunting licensees. Registration is free, and numbers can be obtained by calling 866-703-4605 or online at www.ndowlicensing.com.

Entrants and sponsors are sought for fundraiser

Participants, sponsors and raffle prize donations are sought for the 15th annual Western Nevada College Golf Classic fundraiser to be held at 9 a.m. Sept. 27 at Eagle Valley Golf Course.

The 18-hole tournament features a four-person best-ball format with a shotgun start. Teams of four players can sign up for $500 and businesses can combine a sponsorship and team entry for $700. The cost for individual entrants is $125 per person.

The Douglas County Historical Society will sponsor a fundraising tour of six historical homes in Gardnerville from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 14.

Labor Day weekend train rides are set

The historic Virginia and Truckee train will offer 30-minute rides departing every 45 minutes from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 31 through Sept. 2. Trains leave from and return to the Wabuska Depot, 2180 S. Carson St.

“Steam: An Enduring Legacy, the Railroad Photographs of Joel Jensen” photo exhibit featuring 25 dramatic black and white images will also be displayed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Wabuska Depot.
