August 31, 1926 - August 18, 2013
Mary Nevada Lambert, dearly loved by all who knew her, passed away on August 18, 2013, in Reno, Nevada, while surrounded by her family. Born on August 31, 1926 in Ruth, Nevada, she was the daughter of John and Mary Walker, and stepdaughter of Bill Foster. She spent most of her childhood in Fallon.
Nevada was preceded in death by her parents, and by her beloved husband George in 2005. Nevada’s family include her son John (Inez) of Fernley, her son Steve (Linda) of Sparks, and her grandchildren Erik Lambert, Annelise Serrano, and Garrett Lambert. She leaves behind her brother, Robert Walker, and sister, Evelyn Locke, both of Fallon, as well as a large extended family.
Nevada and George owned the general store in Empire, Nevada, where they lived for 25 years. She was also the librarian for Gerlach High School and E.M. Johnson Elementary School in Empire. In 1982, they retired to Fernley, where they stayed active at the Fernley Senior Center and many other organizations. They were devoted members of the congregation of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church.
Nevada loved to paint her beloved Northern Nevada landscape, especially the views around the Black Rock Desert. She was also a prolific writer, and entertained many people with stories of her life. She loved to swim, and stayed physically fit until felled by a stroke in 2012.
A viewing will be held on Friday, August 23 from 6 to 8 PM at Smith Family Funeral Home in Fallon, and a Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, August 24 at 11:00 AM at St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church, 625 Desert Shadows Lane, Fernley, NV. A private burial will follow at the Northern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley. Nevada’s family would like to thank Dora Estrada and her staff at Family Home Care in Reno for their loving care in the past year.
