The Little Giant Arrives. At 11:30 a.m. sharp, a large crowd assembled at the freight depot of the Virginia & Truckee Railroad to welcome the Little Giant to her future sphere of usefulness. Enthusiastic firemen moved about her as if inspired by sort of reverence for her superior prowess. Cold blooded non-firemen looked on from a distance in silent admiration.

130 years ago

The editor of the Appeal with his family left the city yesterday for a week’s jaunt through the mountains. During his absence W.S. Byrne and Otto Greenhood will run the political and fish yard columns of the paper.

100 years ago

Tonight the Grand will show the much talked about Tonopah moving pictures. This set of pictures is woven into an interesting story and shows the discovery, workings of the great mine and mills. The pictures will give one an insight into the largest silver mining camp in the world and includes Gov. Oddie, Jim Butler, Zeb Kendall, Billy Douglas and a score of other Nevadans.

A woman visitor to Reno was sentenced to three months in the Washoe County Jail for wearing the uniform of a captain in the Australian Air Force.

Music’s voice speaks to the heart, overcomes all barriers of language and place. Featured is the prison band The Boys in Blue.

Nevada gaming officials are investigating possible fraud following the world’s largest slot machine jackpot, hit last week in Lake Tahoe. The retired San Francisco warehouseman hit the $1.7 million jackpot and then disappeared.
