Frank McCollough flagged down train dispatcher Hunter recently and said one of his men took a tie out of the culvert this side of Morgan Mill and two rails and one tie were missing from the track. This means some villains made a deliberate effort to throw conductor Sheehen’s train off the track.

130 years ago

Three months ago Percy Elstner, 10, was playing a game called “snap the whip” at school and was thrown up against a building with such force he was nearly knocked senseless. Since that time, he has become delirious, exhibiting signs of hydrophobia. At times he cannot recognize anybody. Children say it was because he was bit at the time by a dog belonging to Mr. Putman.

Parties recently from Aurora report that a 500-ton plant will begin operations in April and will employ 75 men.

70 years ago

Nevada’s income from the sale of liquor tax stamps was the third largest source of revenue in the state last year, the head of the state liquor tax department said today.

Kirk Loney, president of the Carson City Motel Association, outlined a program the group plans to implement this year. The program includes erection of a large sign on highways 50 and 395, formal demands to commissioners to make the Carson Airport commercial, and a membership drive.

Roop Street has taken some of the traffic off Stewart and Carson streets, but not as much as expected. City officials hope the extension of Roop Street will add to it’s effectiveness.
