Elon ‘Lonnie’ Dillon Moore

Elon (Lonnie) Dillon Moore, 71, of Fallon peacefully passed away - surrounded by family - from complications following heart surgery on Wednesday December 4, 2013.

Lonnie was born in Prineville, OR on January 20, 1942 to the late Albert and Marie Moore. Lonnie graduated from Churchill County High School and received his Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Nevada Reno in 1965. He married Janice Barkley on September 10, 1960.

Lonnie was a beloved teacher and principal for the Churchill County School District, dedicating 40+ years to the education of Fallon’s youth. He was also an avid basketball enthusiast, playing in high school and college, refereeing, coaching and leading the Virginia City Muckers to multiple state basketball championships. He enjoyed attending college and high school sporting events and was a recognizable figurehead in both local academic and athletic settings. Lonnie was very active in the community, participating in plays, singing on the worship team at his church, doing puzzles at the Senior Center, and volunteering during tax season. Lonnie loved his life and the people in it. He took into account the preferences of each individual and found common ground with anyone. His family played a primary role in everything he did. He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son and grandsons, showering his daughters and granddaughters with love and affection, and watching his great grandchildren experience the little joys in life.

Lonnie is survived by his wife Janice, sister Cheryl (Dean) Russell, children Tammy (Paul) Slaton, Darin (Valerie) Moore, and Lani (Thane) Fabel. He is also survived by six grandchildren (Rachel, Carmen, Katie, Remy, Ben, and Owen,) seven great grandchildren (Aria, Ayalyn, Asa, Asher, Michael, Devon, and Weston,) and one niece Kim (Steve) Roland. Lonnie was loved and will be missed by all whom he has left behind.

A viewing will be held at Smith’s Family Funeral Home on Monday, December 9, from 6-8pm. Services will be held on Tuesday, December 10, at 11am at Fallon Church of the Nazarene, located at 1520 Grimes Street, Fallon, NV 89406, Interment will be at the Churchill County Cemetery, reception to follow at the church.
