A party of boys went west yesterday afternoon to Kings Canyon in search of snowbound quail and other game. They were very successful bagging seventeen quail, eight or ten jackrabbits and three genuine, so called, English snipe. The hunt was through snow up to the waist.

130 years ago

A few months back, Jack Campbell of the Walker Lake Bulletin concocted a story regarding the whistling fish of Walker Lake. Of course nobody bit the yarn on this slope, but the Eastern press took the matter up and gravely discussed it. Now the Scientific and Natural History Department is teaching it to the young. When children grow up and visit Walker Lake to find the fish whistle and they’ve been deceived, it will be a sorry day for Jack Campbell, the sad-eyed liar of the Walker Lake Bulletin.

Word has been received of a disastrous fire that ever visited in Winnemucca raging in that town at noon. A block of buildings has been consumed, including the bank, Owl Saloon, hotel, Western Union and postal, telegraph, and telephone company offices.

Boy Scout Troop 33 of Carson and Troop No. 37 of Stewart will sell Christmas trees this year, as in the past, it was announced today. The tree-cutting will be done by the newly-organized air-scout troop.
