To provide escape from the frigid temperatures expected through Monday, the American Red Cross and Friends in Service Helping are partnering with Carson City to open a warming shelter.
“The warming shelter will continue to provide a warm space for people who otherwise would be out in the cold,” according to Red Cross CEO Clara Andriola. “F.I.S.H. will open the center and be responsible to the city for running the operation. The Red Cross is supplying snacks, drinks, cots and blankets for residents and has shelter-trained workers staffing the warming shelter.”
The warming shelter is in the Recreation Center in Fuji Park in Carson City. Fuji Park is on Old Clear Creek Road near Highway 395/South Carson Street, behind Bodines Casino. The warming shelter will be open each evening from 6 p.m. until 7 a.m., through Tuesday morning.
