Bealls, a department and outlet store business based in Florida, will open a store in former Gottschalk’s space at the Carson Mall in the spring.
Joanne Holmes, property manager for The Carrington Co., which markets the mall space, made that announcement Friday. She also said Francisco’s, a Minden restaurant owned by Francisco Sanchez, will open a Mexican restaurant in the old Zen’s Cafe space at the mall.
“We have signed a lease for a new junior anchor,” Holmes said. She said Bealls will take the remaining 24,268 square feet in the space near Sportsman’s Warehouse, an outdoor-outfitting retail outlet set to open as the mall’s major anchor next spring. It will have a store footprint covering more than 40,000 square feet.
Carson Mall’s address is 1227 S. Carson St., but it also has outlets to the east on the other side facing Stewart Street and parking to the east, west and south of the mall.
Attempts to reach the Florida firm’s head of marketing late Friday proved unsuccessful. Attempts to reach Sanchez at his restaurant, at 1588 U.S. Highway 395 N., also were unsuccessful.
Beall’s Inc. is the parent company of Beall’s Department Stores Inc., Beall’s Outlet Stores Inc., and Burke’s Outlet Stores LLC, according to BeallsInc.com. On the website the name is spelled both with and without the apostrophe, but much of the marketing information provided by what is called Bealls Family of Stores drops the apostrophe from the name.
