RENO — Kyle Sharp went 2-2 on Saturday to finish in eighth place at the prestigious Tournament of Champions at the Reno Event Center.
Brady O’Keefe, Carson’s other first-day survivor, lost his first match of the day by decision, 11-4, and was eliminated.
Sharp opened on Saturday with a first-round pin of Cheyenne East’s Isaac Garcia, and then followed that up with a 1-0 victory over Bingham’s Jordan McRae. Sharp then lost by pin to Riley Connolly to fall to the seventh-place match.
Sharp had Crook County’s Grayson Munn down 7-5 with a minute left in regulation. Sharp gave up a two-point near-fall and a three-point near fall in dropping a 10-7 decision.
Carson coach Paul Carter was pleased with the overall showing by his team.
“We had a lot of small victories,” Carter said. “Half our line-up had a (realistic) chance to get to the second day. Two guys did make it. We won about 50 percent of our matches. Overall, it was a good tournament.”
JV: The JV squad traveled to North Valleys on Saturday, and Spencer Rogers (120) came away with the team’s only first-place finish. Casey Stevens (106), Alex Honeycut (152) and Corey Jasper (220 all finished second at their respective weights. Kellen McDermott (132) and Dakota Erickson (160) racked up third-place finishes while Alex Estrada (138) and Bryceton Schilling (182) were fourth-place winners.
