Nevada Arts Council displays artwork at Legislature

The Nevada Arts Council’s Legislative eXhibition Series, which has run since 1985 as a way to spotlight the Silver State’s artists, is now open at the Nevada State Legislative Building.“The LXS Gallery engages legislators and the public in discussions about art — a topic not often referenced during daily floor sessions and committee meetings,” said Susan Boskoff, executive director of the Arts Council.The 2013 series will kick off with “Pieces of My Thoughts,” photographs by Sparks artist Amy Hunter, which will be on display through Feb. 22.Growing up in a small town in Nevada, Hunter said, she was always engaged in the arts. She started with drawing, and progressed to painting. Eventually Hunter concentrated on photography as it allowed her to express what she sees in its perfect simplicity, she said. Hunter received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2011 from Utah State University's Caine College of the Arts, in Logan. After graduation, Hunter interned with Maine Media Workshops and College in Rockport, Maine before making her way back to Nevada.She works as a computer artist and assistant photographer at Digiman Studio in Reno.Other shows will include: “Before the Neon,” Feb. 25-March 15, paintings by Sy Collier of Henderson; “Time Frame,” March 18-April 5, sculpture by Lara Alberti of Reno; “One Is Silver, the Other Is Gold,” April 8-26, celebrating 25 years of Nevada folk and traditional arts apprenticeships; “In My Wildest Dreams,” April 29-May 17, drawings by Marylou Evans of North Las Vegas; and “Dilogos,” May 20-June 7, drawings by Ricardo Olvera of Reno.Managed by the Artist Services Program of the Nevada Arts Council, the LXS Gallery space is on the first floor across from the Caucus Deli in the Legislative Building, 401 S. Carson St. It is open to the public, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
