PREP: Tigers roll Damonte Ranch

MINDEN — Douglas sent its seniors out in style Tuesday night, rolling over Damonte Ranch 80-45 in the Tigers’ final home game of the regular season.“It’s a compliment to our guys just for coming in focused,” Douglas coach Corey Thacker said. “They are playing with confidence right now. Damonte is a good team, they’ve been putting up 70, 80 points, and we kept them from doing that tonight.“This was nice. The kids, all our kids, wanted to play like this for the seniors.”Douglas started all five of its seniors – Hunter Myers, Joe Syammach, Jaden Mustacchio, Michael Nolting and David Ogles –and got out to a 17-13 lead in the first quarter. The Tigers exploded offensively from there. Douglas outscored Damonte 23-6 in the second, 22-16 in the third and 18-10 in the fourth to put the game away.“That second quarter was a nice spot for us,” Thacker said. “The defense stepped up, got some good stops and hit people on the run to set up some easy points at the rim. The second half, we shot 3-of-4 from 3-point range and that helped keep things going. Now we have to turn around and put that same effort and focus into Carson on Friday night.”FERNLEY 72, DAYTON 54DAYTON — Despite 21 points from Bernardo Macias, the Dust Devils dropped a tough decision to Fernley.It was a four-point game at half, and then the Vaqueros lengthened the lead over the final 16 minutes.Steve Thompson added 15 to complement Macias’ output.VARSITY GIRLS BASKETBALLDOUGLAS 40, DAMONTE 31MINDEN — The Douglas High girls basketball team raced out to an early lead and pushed ahead to a win over Damonte Ranch.The Tigers led 13-6 after the first quarter, but they got outscored 7-4 in the second. The teams matched each other nearly point-for-point in the second half, with Douglas outscoring the Mustangs by four over the final two quarters.“Our three seniors (Diana Regalado, Desiree Cage and Ericka Munoz) had a great game,” Douglas coach Werner Christen said. “As a team, we were up and down a bit. We played really well at times, we were average at others and there were some poor stretches for us. That first quarter pretty much won the game for us.“It’s a win, and now we’re focused on putting together a good game at Carson. You want to go into the playoffs playing well, so that will be our goal.”Regalado led the Tigers with 15 points, Cage had eight, and McKenna Kynett had seven.“Both Diana and Des have been putting together some big quarters for us,” Christen said. “Diana had seven in the first quarter tonight and eight in a quarter against Manogue the other night. Des puts up 10 in a quarter tonight. It’s good to see either one of them can step up and have a big run for us.”Douglas closes out the regular season Friday night at Carson at 5:15 p.m.JV BOYS BASKETBALLCARSON 61, WOOSTER 38Jared Rooker scored 20 points to lead the Senators to an easy win over Wooster.Ian Schulz added 13 and Jimmy Redlark 12.Carson led 30-15 at the half and coasted in the fnal two periods.JV GIRLS BASKETBALLCarson 58, WOoster 46Michelle Perry scored 22 points as the Carson JV girls team held off a hot-shooting Wooster team.Wooster scored 20 points in the fourth quarter, making six 3-pointers. Lindy Lehman, Teresa Boehmer, Bethany Kniffen and Ivy Pembrook all added six points. Carson wraps up the season against rival Douglas on Friday. GIRLS FRESHMEN BASKETBALLCarson 48, Wooster 28Bailey Allen scored 11 points and added seven rebounds as Carson rolled over Wooster. All the girls scored in the win. Andrea Maffei added eight points. Gabriella Winder pulled down eight rebounds and Brianna Alvarado added seven rebounds. Winder and Arianna Seaver each had four steals. The Senators wrap up the season Friday against Douglas.
