Carson man killed in hit-and-run

A 46-year-old Carson City man was struck and killed on William Street Friday morning by a driver who sped away from the scene.John Boggs was trying to cross William Street, across from Mills Park, at 6:26 a.m. when he was struck by a silver or gray Toyota 4Runner, Sheriff Ken Furlong said.“Clearly he was crossing the street in front of Mills Park, a dangerously dark part of town,” Furlong said. “It appears as though an east-bound car did not see him and struck him,” fleeing the scene. Furlong said that stretch of street has a history of incidents.The sun did not rise Friday morning until 6:58 a.m.One witness was behind the Toyota when it struck the man and reported the incident at 6:33 a.m. The witness told troopers he applied the brakes when he saw the pedestrian attempting to cross the east-bound lanes from the north side of the highway. The witness saw the SUV strike the Boggs in the right lane, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.Boggs was briefly on the hood of the SUV before rolling off or falling off 40 yards east of the impact.The Toyota is described as gray or silver, with a lifted suspension kit, black rims and tinted windows. It is between the model years 1999 and 2002.Multiple other cars were on the road and may have witnessed the incident. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Carson City Sheriff's Office Detective's Division at 775-887-2020.Both Furlong and the Nevada Highway Patrol are asking for the driver to come forward and talk to investigators about the collision. The driver is believed to live or work east of Carson City.
