The Division I basketball playoffs start on Tuesday for the girls and Wednesday for the boys.
The Carson boys, 9-7, visit Spanish Springs, 9-7 Tuesday at 7 p.m. Earlier this year, Carson dominated the Cougars at Morse Burley Gym.
In other first-round boys games, Douglas (15-1) hosts McQueen (8-8), Galena (13-3) hosts Reed (9-7) and Hug (13-3) hosts Damonte Ranch (8-8). All games tip at 7.
The Carson girls, 11-5, host Spanish Springs, 12-4, Wednesday at 7. The Cougars beat Carson at Morse Burley earlier this year.
Bishop Manogue (15-1) hosts North Valleys (6-10), Reed (14-2) hosts Douglas (8-8) and Damonte Ranch (3-13) visits Reno (14-2). All three tip at 7.
The semifinals are scheduled for Carson. The boys will play Thursday at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively. The girls play on Friday at 5 and 7 p.m. The finals are slated for Saturday night, also at Carson.
WNC RECORDS SWEEP
HENDERSON - Western Nevada College's baseball team improved to 9-2 with a sweep of Pima Saturday afternoon.
The teams will conclude their series today at noon.
WNC won the first game, 6-3, behind the pitching of Austin Richmond, who notched his first career win with the Wildcats. The big blow offensively came in the fourth when Cole Ferguson ripped a bases-jammed triple to extend the Wildcats' lead to 4-0. Ferguson finished with three hits on the day.
In the second game, WNC won 7-5. Spencer Greer picked up the win in relief of Phil Belding. Luke Eubank picked up the save in both games.
DAYTON BOYS WIN
DAYTON - The Dust Devils outscored Yerington in three of the four quarters en route to a 67-57 win in the regular-season finale for both schools.
Jessie Evans and Bernardo Macias led Dayton in scoring wth 18 and 11, respectively. Steve Thompson and Jayson Fraser scored eight apiece.
On Friday, Dayton dropped a 77-43 decison to Fallon.
