Let there be no more clamor against red tape of the Government. A few days ago McConnell introduced a memorial to Congress to provide for the starving Indians of Nevada, and yesterday $5,000 arrived from Washington for their relief. There is some sense in this sort of work.

A dispatch from Reno states that Frank Baccus, 118, died yesterday. John Hawthorne, 82, knew Baccus 60 years ago. He was then 6 feet, 8 inches and weighed 250 pounds. Baccus, a negro, remembered when Madison was inaugurated in 1809, and accompanied his master in the Black Hawk war of 1832. In 1850 he came to Placerville where he worked out his bondage. He came to Reno later, before there was a Reno.

70 years ago

The Boy Scouts of Nevada took over state government of Nevada today, replacing the entire Senate and most of the Assembly. Gov. E.P. Carville addressed both the real and acting officials to the enjoyment of all.

50 years ago

Pat Bacon, formerly of Carson City, recently signed a professional football contract with the Buffalo Bills grid team. The 265 pound gridder plays defensive end and tackle.

A memorial service will be held for the Rev. Joseph Henry Pritchard, 74, of Bakersfield. The former Carson City resident, Pritchard was involved in the formation of Friends in Service Helping (FISH) and FOCUS and was chairman of the Nevada Board of Parole.

Gardnerville's 125th birthday bash will spread over the summer, starting April 5.
