A volleyball tournament will be Feb. 19-21 at lunch. The finals will be 6 p.m. in the big gym on the Feb. 21. Teams will consist of eight players, four boys and four girls.The junior class is hosting it as a fundraiser for next year’s prom.(Report submitted by public relations officer Lydia Lopez.)RIFLE TEAM TO NATIONALSCongrats to the CHS JROTC Rifle team that has qualified for the Air Rifle National Championships in Salt Lake City on Feb. 21-23.Members of the CHS team include captain Makayla Ragnone, Bernardo Medina, Sergio Zarate, Angel Estrada and Gaige Bobbitt.The CHS JROTC team is coached by their Senior Naval Science instructor Lt. Cmdr. Frederick Jones.Good luck to our CHS Rifle team.CONGRATS WRESTLERSGood job to all of our wrestlers who competed at state this past weekend.As a team, CHS wrestlers are the Nevada Division 1 Academic State Champs. Individually, Kyle Sharp placed third in his weight division, and Brady Rivera also placed fourth in his weight division. Way to go boys!CHS TALENT SHOW RESULTSCHS has a very talented pool of young adults and this week’s talent show was incredible.In the singing category, first place went to Emily Morris for her rendition of “Some Kind of Wonderful” and second place went to Kenzie Tillitt for her singing and guitar playing of the song “Heartless.”In the non-singing category, Lozia Louisa Lopez won for her Aerial Skills performance of “Fantasy.” Second place in the non-singing category was awarded to Hannah Goddard for her dance performance of “Beez in the Trap.”The grand prize was awarded to the full brass band group of Jessica Dodge, Daniel Cihigoyentche, Ivan Gates, Hunter Hewitt, Jonathan Konder, Kenny Koop and Richard Long.HOSA HAT DAYHave you ever heard of cystic fibrosis? It is a chronic disease that causes large amounts of mucus build up in the lungs and digestive system. On average, 1 in 29 Americans have the cystic fibrosis gene, which is about 70,000 people in the world.This disease is monstrous, and we need your help Carson High. Our HOSA chapter is having a “hat day” Friday, Feb. 22 in hopes of raising a considerable amount of money to put toward research, help fight this condition and hopefully save lives in the process.Vouchers can be purchased before school and at lunch Tuesday-Friday in Senator Square. Cost is $2, and you must have the voucher on person to wear your hat.Keep it clean and appropriate or the voucher is not valid and you will be in violation of the dress code! NHS collected 150 units of blood, which beat our goal of a 146. Thank you NHS members for organizing this event. Thank you students and community members for supporting such a worthy cause.BOWLING RESULTSThe CHS bowlers remain undefeated this season winning their first round of playoffs on Wednesday against McQueen. Steven Costa continued to lead the team with a high game of 201.The team’s next match will be on Tuesday at the Coconut Bowl where they will compete for the Valley division championships, and progress on to the championships. Please see Mr. McCarthy in the Guidance Office for more details.SENIOR SPOTLIGHTWe are proud to recognize Zachary Kind, an exemplary student who loves to live!He really enjoys outdoor activities and sports, especially ones like football and snowboarding that can be hazardous to one’s health. However, it was some brotherly horseplay several years ago that would help Zach decide what he wanted to be. After wrestling around with his brother, Zach had his front teeth nearly knocked out. A trip to the dentist was all it took, Zach found his future career.He plans to attend UNR next fall then transfer to UNLV to attend dental school.
