Obituary: James Louis "Jim" Carey

James Louis "Jim" Carey, 57, resident of Carson City for the past 35 years went home to heaven on February 12, 2013 after an 8 month battle with cancer, his three sisters were by his side. He was born on May 25, 1955 in Portland, OR to Betty and Gus Carey. He was the baby brother to his three sisters. He graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in 1973. He received a "Certificate of Achievement in Business" from WNCC in 1995. He worked at Cactus Jack's and The Nugget as a bartender then at the Ormsby House as a Food and Beverage Manager. After 17 years as Property Manager at Clear Creek Mobile Home Park he retired in 2012. He loved his son, blues music, Lake Tahoe and watching the fights with his nephews. The greatest joy of his life was his son, Ryan, born on January 1, 1995. He is survived by his son, Ryan Joseph Carey Cullen; Ryan's mother, Kathleen Cullen both of CO; his sisters, Phyllis Whited, Bonnie Flim (Bill), Wanda Martin (Bob) of Carson City; nephews, Bob Whited, Greg Schierholt and Brian Breiter of Carson City and nieces, Krista Cullen of CO and Pamela Price of CA; great-nephews, Tim Whited, Logan Schierholt, Hayden and Alex Breiter and great-nieces, Nicole Whited, Katie Price and Angela Martin, and numerous cousins.

A "Celebration of Life" will be held Saturday, February 23, 2013 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Carson City, 1750 N. Mountain Street. Pastor Pat Propster of Calvery Chapel will officiate. A reception will be held immediately following. Private interment at a later date. Fitzhenry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
