Palmer Club at Dayton Valley open for public membership

The Dayton Valley Palmer Club, the men’s golf club at Dayton Valley Golf Club, is open to public membership and now accepting applications for the 2013 season. Any area male golfer age 18 or older can join by paying annual dues of $250. Dues for members who have a Northern Nevada Golf Association membership and GHIN handicap with another golf club are $220.The full dues fee includes NNGA/GHIN number and handicap and entry into 10 tournaments including a Skins Game, Club Championship and two-day Member-Member tournament with four 9-hole formats. Also on the schedule are the Member-Guest and Annual Match Play Championship that require nominal additional entry fees. Palmer Club members also receive a discounted green fees on tournament days.An associate membership has been added this year for players unable to play the full schedule of tournaments. For $130, an associate membership includes NNGA/GHIN number and handicap, and entry into two tournaments. The season starts on Wednesday, March 13 and continues with tournaments every Wednesday morning though Oct. 30.This includes 26 tournaments at Empire Ranch Golf Course and nine away tournaments at other local golf courses. All tournaments are handicapped and flighted so that everyone has an excellent chance to win prize money. All tournaments are shotgun starts so you don’t have to worry about start times. There are also a variety of tournament types such as individual stroke play, scrambles, better ball, best ball, Cha Cha Cha and the club championship. Applications are available at the Empire Ranch Golf Course Pro Shop, 1875 Fair Way, Carson City. The membership fee is $40, which includes your NNGA membership for 2013 and several other benefits. A current handicap is not necessary but you must be at least 60 years of age to join. Membership includes free range balls on most days of the tournaments. Silver State gymnastsfare well over weekendThe Silver State Gymnastics Academy’s competitive girls team competed in the Gym Nevada 2013 Women's Gymnastics Challenge last weekend. The level threes were first to compete, and some notables were Annika Bruketta placing third on vault, Gracie Walt took home the gold medal on vault and won bronze on the balance beam.At level four in the 6-7 division, Emily Lewis won vault, bars, beam, and placed fourth on floor to win the all-around (AA) title. In the 8-year-old division, Elle Liebendorfer made another clean sweep by winning first place on all four events on her way to claiming the AA title. Rosalia Daulerio was third on vault, and Elianna King was second on vault. In the 9-year-old division, Alycia Hellwinkel was third on vault and bars, and first on beam and floor to capture the first place AA. For the 10-and-up division, it was Madison Adams who brought home the first place AA medal by placing second on vault and first on beam. As a result of their combined efforts, the SSGA level four team won the first place team award.Next to compete were the level fives. Isabella Daulerio was third on vault, second on bars and beam, and won the third place AA. Sophia Taggart placed third on bars. Coupled with the scores of their teammates, they were able to bring home the second-place team trophy. Lily Reid was the lone level six competing and won first place on bars, second on beam and floor to capture the bronze AA medal. Eagle Valley 7th graderstop Carson MiddleEagle Valley’s 7th grade volleyball team knocked off Carson Middle School 22-25, 28-26 and 15-11 last week.Brittany Sorensen had 11 service points, four aces and three digs, while Lauren Lemburg had 10 service points, five aces, three kills and four digs. Blanca Sosa had five service points, an ace nd two digs. Camiell Simpson had four service points, an ace and five kills.High Sierra Flycasters fundraiser on March 9Well it’s that time of year again, time to get out your fly rod, check your leaders, chase the spiders out of your waders, and start making some plans. A good place to start the planning is at the annual High Sierra Flycasters fundraiser on March 9 at 6 p.m. at the St. Gall’s Parish Community Center. Dinner is at 7 p.m. and it will be provided by the Minden Meat Market and Deli, music by Linda Sandstrom, and a slide show of the year’s catches by Liz Wierach. There will be a no host bar, a raffle, and silent auction with lots of nice stuff. Tickets are $25 when purchased in advance and $30 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased at the Lone Tree Gallery on Esmeralda.
