COMMUNITY: Tigersharks take 9th in state

The Carson Tigersharks swim team finished ninth in last weekend's Nevada State Short Course Swimming Championships at the Desert Breeze Aquatic Center in Las Vegas.

Dagen Kipling, 14, was Carson's top scorer in individual events. He was second in the 500 free and 200 individual medley, racked up third-place finishes in the 400 IM, 200 free and 100 breast, and was seventh n the 100 fly and 200 butterfly. He also had 11th and 14th-place finishes in relay events.

Brett Kolb, 12, was fifth in the 50 back and seventh in the 100 back, 200 free and 500 free. He also was 11th in the 100 free and 13th in the 200 IM.

Ashley Meyer, 14, was 12th in the 1650 free, 13th in the 500 free and 14th in the 200 butterfly. Abby Pittman, 17, was 11th in the 1650 free and 13th in the 200 breast. A.J. Gutierrez, 12, was 12th in the 50 back, 13th in the 100 back and 100 free, 14th in the 100 fly and 15th in the 200 IM. Kennedy Redican, 8, was 11th in the 25 breast and 12th in the 50 breast. Matteas Klatt, 9, was 14th in the 100 back and 15th in the 200 free. Taylor Rojo, 10, was ninth in the 50 breast and 11th in the 100 breast.

The Tigersharks had several top-10 finishes in relay events.

The 8-and-under 100 free relay team of Kendall McDonald, Redican, Katarina Klatt and Cori Doran were seventh. The 13-14 400 medley relay squad of Nora Strong, Christy Krahn, Meyer and Stella Caroll was eighth as was the girls 200 free relay team of Kaitlyn Nelson, Hannah Presley, Nicole Van Geel and Morgan Nelson.

The 11-12 200 medley team of Kolb, Jarrod Meyer, Gutierrez and Christan Riley was 10th. The same group was 10th in the 200 free relay team.


Yerington K of C holds FT contest

The Knights of Columbus Council 6688 held its district free throw contest recently at Dayton High School.

Taylissa Marriott and Isaak Rowe were the 10-year-old winners. In 11-year-old division, winners were Lilly Aguilar and Bryson Camarena. Carlee Emm won in the 13-year-old division winner while Austin Camarena and Jaynell Kylee Emm were the 14-year-old winners. Brenden Thomas won the 13-year-old boys competition and Christian Brown was second.

• The Gardnerville Knights of Columbus held their championship recently, and the following performers moved on: Anderson Jensen (10), Brayden Marler (11), Johnny Lockard (13) and Rudolfo Velasco (14). On the girls side, Hannah Hodorowicz (12), Sophia Ruedy (13) and Ann Ji Hodorowicz (14) all moved on.


Local golf group seeks members

The Carson Valley Men's Golf Club is now accepting membership applications for the 2013 season.

The first tournament is March 17, and the season concludes on Nov. 10.

The dues for 2013 are $55 which includes NNGA membership for 2013. The fee is only $45 for Carson Valley Golf Club season pass holders.

All tournaments are handicapped and flighted, so that everyone has an excellent chance to win prize money. There also are a variety of tournament types such as individual stroke play, best ball, Stableford, Chapman, team play and scrambles. Six tournaments will have added value prize money.

CHS skiers conclude 2013 season

Carson High's ski team concluded its season earlier the is week at the NIAA State Championships at Sierra Ski Ranch.

Nick Greene was 33rd with a 3:24.3 for his three giant slalom runs, while Bailee Barber was 28th with a three-run total of 3:08.9.


CHS football boosters schedule meeting

The next CHS Football Boosters Club meeting is schedule for March 4 at 6:30 p.m. at Q's BBQ on Fairview Drive.

Prospective members are encouraged to attend.
