The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from residents interested in volunteering to serve on the Planning Commission and the Cultural Commission. The planning slot is for a term that will expire in June 2014, and the citizen-at-large position on the cultural panel is for a term expiring in January 2015.Both are unpaid positions. The commissions serve in an advisory capacity, making recommendations for supervisors to consider.The Planning Commission oversees matters pertaining to Carson City planning and zoning, land use and growth management. Meetings are the last Wednesday of each month at 5 p.m.Applicants must be willing to serve approximately 12 to 16 hours monthly to handle Planning Commission matters.The Cultural Commission serves as the official advisory group to supervisors on matters related to cultural life in Carson City. Goals are to encourage excellence by area artists and cultural organizations and to increase awareness and involvement of citizens in city cultural life. This panel’s meetings are held at least quarterly, lasting two or three hours, and additional time may be required for special projects or subcommittee work. A minimum of 10 hours monthly is likely.Supervisors interview and appoint members to both commissions. Applicants must be Carson City registered voters. Applications will be taken until Feb. 7, and interviews are tentatively planned for Feb. 21. Applications are available in the Carson City Executive Offices at 201 N. Carson St., No. 2.
