Wine, music, arts, dance and BAC aficionados pair fun, fundraising

Wine plays the lead but shares stage and screen and the Nugget Ballroom with a cast of extras in supporting roles in a January fund-raiser to benefit the Brewery Arts Center (BAC). Those cast extras are music and the other arts, people watching a wine-inspired movie one night and dancing or socializing another night away, enjoying wine, food and the Millennium Bugs five-piece combo.Winter Wine & All That Jazz, the main event, starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, at the Nugget Ballroom. Tickets cost $30 apiece to help support the Carson City-based BAC. There will be wine tasting, hors d’oeuvres and the combo’s jazz, including musical renditions from the Great American Songbook. Wine from more than 20 wineries, many of them in neighboring California, will be available for tasting.A free Winter Wine Warm-up is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. this Friday at the BAC Performing Arts Center. In an attempt to get folks in the mood for wine, fun and fund-raising, the event will include a showing of the 2008 film “Bottle Shock,” which reprised in dramatic form the 1976 blind wine-tasting called the “Judgment of Paris.” Based on a true story, it depicts California wines winning the day. The movie, which includes both drama and romance with tense and lighter moments, will be held in the BAC performance hall, 51 W. King St. The scheduled guest speaker is Mike Hautekeet, owner of Mike’s Pharmacy in Carson City, who is knowledgeable regarding wines and how they are made.
