Prayer vigil set at CapitolACTIONN is hosting a “stop the gun violence” prayer vigil at the Nevada State Capitol at noon Jan. 28. Participants will meet at 11:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on Division and Telegraph Streets before walking to the capitol.From noon to 12:45 p.m., the public is invited to join members of Carson City and Washoe County faith communities when prayers will be offered, a litany shared, names of gun violence victims recited and a call for an end to gun violence made.ACTIONN, the local faith based community organization group, is working with the PICO National Network in calling for an end to gun violence by banning all assault weapons and implementing mandatory background checks on all gun sales.For more information, contact melanie@actionn.org or go to www.actionn.org or the ACTIONN Facebook page.Buddhist ceremony set for Jan. 25An opening ceremony for a precious collection of sacred Buddhist relics currently touring the world will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Jan. 25 at the Reno Buddhist Center, 820 Plumas St. The relics will be on display from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 26 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 27.The relics were found among the cremation ashes of Buddhist masters.
