Carson’s Equalization board gets oriented in first 2013 gathering

Carson City’s 2013 Board of Equalization was sworn in Tuesday, went through an hour of orientation and then handled one routine matter before adjourning until Feb. 5.The five-member board that handles property tax issues for city-county government has two new members, though one of those brings previous experience. Assessor Dave Dawley said Lori Bagwell joins the board, representing Supervisor Brad Bonkowski, and Roy Semmons returns to the board after a four-year absence. Semmons represents Supervisor Jim Shirk.Remaining as chairman is Jed Block, who represents Mayor Robert Crowell. Also remaining on the board are Gary Schulz, representing Supervisor John McKenna, and Jill Rasner, representing Supervisor Karen Abowd. The board heard orientation presentations from Terry Rubald of the Nevada Department of Taxation’s Division of Local Government Services, Chief Deputy District Attorney Randal Munn and Dawley.The only board action was a routine change of the obsolescence evaluation percentage, which made it 20 percent to rectify a clerical error at 10 percent, for residential property at 1218 Quail Run Drive.The board also decided to postpone until Feb. 5 the next meeting, which originally had been set for Jan. 29.
