Man shoots self after stealing Nevada Highway Patrol vehicle

A Nevada Highway Patrol traffic stop at 3:55 p.m. Monday led to two carjackings, a rollover and finally a suicide.

A trooper stopped a gray 2013 Ford Explorer at the Mustang exit on Interstate 80. One of the suspects, four were in the vehicle, exited the Explorer, stole the NHP trooper's vehicle and then drove east on Interstate 80. Other NHP troopers shot out the tires of the car. The suspect exited the NHP trooper's car and then, with the trooper's shotgun, stole a 2007 silver Pontiac Grand Prix, although the driver of the Grand Prix was unharmed, according to Trooper Barb Stapleton.

The driver continued east on Interstate 80, attempted to pass a semi-trailer, lost control of the car and crashed. He exited the car, shotgun in hand, and shot in the air before turning the shotgun on himself. He then crossed into the westbound travel lanes and shot himself two more times, according to Stapleton.

Paramedics attempted to treat the suspect, whose name is not being released, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two of the suspects in the Explorer, both from Florida, have been identified. Manuel Alejandro, 29, from Jacksonville and 23-year-old Christian Magllano Alzpurua, also of Jacksonville. The other female suspect's name has not been released.
