CVAC Valentine’s dance to feature Tahoe Dance Band

The Carson Valley Arts Council's Valentine’s concert on Friday, Feb. 8, is sure to please with music for dancing and listening by the Tahoe Dance Band. All ages are encouraged to attend and those in attendance may want to dress in the style of 1930s and 1940s Big Band Era. Make it a date by dining out before the concert at one of the many fine restaurants in the area.Whether listening to the sounds of Glenn Miller, Count Basie or Tommy Dorsey — dancing the foxtrot, swing, waltzes, cha-cha, tango, jitterbug or rhumba — you can enjoy all this and more from the Tahoe Dance Band, a 17-piece big band from South Lake Tahoe, Calif., founded in 1996 by manager Al Smith, who has collected a big band library of more than 500 arrangements. The Tahoe Dance Band is comprised of professional musicians from Tahoe, Reno, Carson City and Carson Valley.The Carson Valley Arts Council is in a capital campaign to raise funds to retire the debt on the Copeland Lumber Warehouse. Those attending the concert will have an opportunity to make a contribution, have their photo taken with our Big Check, and receive an original hand-painted pen or pendant by local artist Pam Brekas. Also, the CVAC is selling raffle tickets for an original quilt donated by Nancey Brisack. Raffle tickets are $5 for one; 5 or $20; or 30 tickets for $100. The doors open at 6 p.m. with wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages at a no-host bar provided by the Tahoe Ridge Winery and Bistro.
