Obituary: George Wilson Yuill

George Wilson Yuill, 75 passed away in Las Vegas, Nev. Jan. 23, 2013. George was born in Boston, Mass. on April 25, 1937 to George and Nellie Yuill. In 1954, at the age of 17 he joined the Air Force. Soon after, he was employed by McDonnell-Douglas and in 1962, opened Ed and George's Chevron in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. This is where he met the love of his life, Gladys. George went on to the Nevada Highway Patrol Academy. Upon graduation, he was sent to the Las Vegas district and in 1967 re-assigned to the Ely district. In the summer of 1972, George was offered a forensic investigation position with the Attorney General's office in Carson City. George remained in the security field after leaving the State, as well as, aiding in the advancement of paramedic services. George had very resourceful tenures as head of security for Western Village in Reno, Peppermill in Mesquite and the San Remo in Las Vegas.

George spent many a fall hiking the mountains east of Ely, doing one of his most cherished hobbies, deer hunting. He was involved as a booster for White Pine and Carson high Schools, as well as a member of several other organizations. George was "larger than life" and will be dearly missed by his family and friends. For the past seven years, George and Gladys have resided in Ely. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Nellie; his sisters, Evelyn and Bal.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Gladys; his sister, Sandra Lacey of Austin, Texas; four children; and Ed (Debbie) Yuill of Reno; nine grandchildren, Stephanie, Vincent, John, Michael, Gina, Karl, Jeremiah, Sam and Rachael; as well as ten great-grandchildren, Alaina, Zachary, Ashleigh, Alex, Breeana, Aleisha, Andrew, Robert, Austin and Joseph.

A family memorial service will be held at Mountain View Cemetery on Feb. 11, 2013. There will be a Celebration of George's life Feb. 16, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Prospector Hotel in Ely.
