Justin Nussbaumer threw 4 2/3 innings of no-hit ball, and Brian Guthrie and Eddie Tierney each drove in a run to lead the Carson City 9-10-year-old all-star team to a 2-1 win over North Tahoe in a consolation game in the District 1 Little League Championships Monday at Governors Field.

Carson will return to action today at 5:30 p.m. in a consolation game.

Carson took a 1-0 lead in the first when Kobe Morgan singled, moved to second on a passed ball, went to third on an error and scored when Guthrie was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

The locals made it 2-0 in the second against lefty Charles Jones. After two outs, Nussbaumer singled to left, advanced to second when Morgan’s ball was misplayed and scored on Tierney’s double. Kyle Navarro grounded out to end the inning.

Carson stranded 10 runners, including the bases loaded in the first and fourth innings. The team managed one hit over the final three innings.

The two runs proved to be more than enough for Nussbaumer & Co. The lefty stranded a runner at third in the first inning, and then was helped by a nice defensive play by Navarro, who made a nice double play in the second.

North Tahoe finally got on the board in the sixth against Guthrie, who had relieved Nussbaumer with two outs in the fifth.

Tyler Knight reached on an error and moved to second on an infield single by Jones. Brayden Hock was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Knight scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-1. After consecutive strikeouts, Guthrie walked Kieran Fentan to load the bases and then went 3-2 to Nigel Loudon before striking him out to end the game.

Carson managed four hits — one each by Nussbaumer, Morgan, Tierney and Tyler Gurrieri. The only Truckee hit was Jones’ infield chopper in the sixth.
