Carson stars roll to win

Crooked numbers were the norm for the Carson City 11-12 all-stars on Friday night.

Carson scored more than one run in four of its five at-bats en route to an easy 14-4 mercy rule consolation win over North Valleys at Governors Field.

The victory enables Carson to advance to an 8 p.m. game tonight.

Carson opened the game with a bang, scoring four runs thanks to a double by Kahle Good and singles by Colby Zemp and Teigen Key plus three miscues by North Valleys.

The locals stretched the lead to 6-0 in the top of the second when Ian Pettersen doubled, advanced to third on Josh Buchan’s fly to center and scored on Good’s double. Good later scored on a wild pitch.

Carson pitcher Hayden Hudson, who struck out the side in the first, gave up a 2-run homer to Mason McCleary to make it 6-2 in the bottom of the inning. Hudson did manage to strike out the side in the second.

Carson used the longball to extend its lead to 10-2 in the top of the third.

Carter Brown homered to left with one out. Hudson singled and moved to second when Landon Truesdale’s ball to left was misplayed. Buchan followed with a towering 3-run homer. NV starter David Snethen was pulled in favor of Jalen Buckner, who fanned Good to end the inning.

Hudson struck out the first two hitters he faced in the bottom of the third, but was removed after 51 pitches. Pettersen took over and allowed a solo homer to Jade Sanchez which made it 10-3.

Carson extended its lead to 11-3 in the top of the fourth when Zemp doubled and eventually scored on two wild pitches by Buckner.

Pettersen ran into trouble in the fourth, giving up a run and three hits before being removed in favor of Good, who struck out the next two hitters he faced to quell the uprising.

Carson struck for three more runs in the top of the fifth.

Pettersen and Truesdale walked with one out. Buchan followed with an infield single to load the bases. Good delivered a two-run single to make it 13-4, and Zemp gave Carson the magical 10-run cushion with a single.

Good struck out the first two batters in the bottom of the fifth, but was removed despite having thrown only 17 pitches. Under Little League rules, he could have faced one more batter and still pitched today.

Brown came on and gave up a double and single before striking out Coper Blotzke looking to end the contest. Carson pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts and one walk in their 9-hit effort.

Good led Carson with three hits, while Buchan added two.
