Obituary: Samuel Spoto

Surrounded by family, Samuel J. Spoto, a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2013. Mr. Spoto, son of

Scililian immigrants, was born in Rochester, New York. He was a proud American, serving in the U.S. Postal Service for over 25 years and serving in the U.S. Army during World War II in Okinawa. He was married to the love of his life, Nellie Spoto, for over 67 years.

Mr. Spoto was known for his great sense of humor, green thumb, and ability to fix just about anything. He could tell a good story over a great meal, was an avid reader and golfer and was active in his community. He retired in 1975, when he and his wife moved to Carson City from Southern California, where they lived since 1957. As a past president and member of the Carson City Sertoma Club and the Friends of the Library, he touched many lives with his kindness. He worked hard and enjoyed many years with family and friends and was blessed with a life well lived. He is survived by two daughters Patricia Morgan and Elaine Brooks; granddaughters Shannon Miller, Gina Torry, and Lisa Torry-Smith; great grandchildren

Mackenzie, Adam and Haley Miller and Logan Smith.

A memorial service and mass will be held at St. Teresa of Avila, 3000 North Lompa Lane, Carson City, on July 13 at 10:30 a.m. in the Little Chapel, north side.
