NV Energy Foundation donates to non-profits

Three non-profit organizations with ties to Carson City were among 24 Northern Nevada recipients of funds from the NV Energy Foundation that were announced recently.

The foundation said in a news release that it has contributed $721,250 to the 24 not-for-profits during the first half of 2013. Among those recipients were Nevada Rural Counties RSVP based in Carson City; Friends in Service Helping, which serves the needy in Carson and surrounding areas, and the Western Nevada College Foundation.

Today the NVE foundation is hosting a breakfast gathering for grant recipients at the NVE Reno office on Neil Road.

“NV Energy has a longstanding tradition of community support,” said Mary Simmons, the NVE vice president of external strategy. She said support is targeted to the region’s non-profits to help education, the environment, youth development, the arts and multi-cultural outreach, as well as health and human services.

Other recipients: The American Red Cross; Girl Scouts of the Sierra Nevada; Boy Scouts of America, Nevada Area Council; Community Chest, Inc.; Food Bank of Northern Nevada; Desert Research Institute Foundation; Nevada Museum of Art; Northern Nevada Children’s Cancer Foundation; KNPB Channel 5 Public Broadcasting; Reno Youth Jazz Orchestra; Tahoe Rim Trail; Community Foundation of Western Nevada; The Holland Project; National Judicial College; The Nature Conservancy; TMCC Foundation; C*A*R*E Chest of Sierra Nevada; United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra; VSA Arts of Nevada; Envirolution; and the Special Assistance Found for Energy.
