Salvation Army of Carson City is hosting a backpack and school supply drive through Aug. 4. The items will be distributed to underprivileged children from the Carson City area.

The Salvation Army is seeking basic supplies such as backpacks, calculators, crayons, erasers, glue sticks, pencils, pens, paper and rulers.

“We’ve been getting calls from families in need for several weeks, asking for help,” said Lt. Mark Cyr, Salvation Army Carson City Corps officer. “We expect that more than 60 kids will need our assistance.”

Donation drop-off sites in Carson City include The Salvation Army, 661 Colorado St.; the Salvation Army Thrift Store, 180 E. Winnie Lane; Grandma Hattie’s Restaurant, 2811 S. Carson St.; and Office Depot, 222 Fairview Drive.

After the drive concludes, The Salvation Army will hand out the school supplies to pre-qualified families.
