Sandoval vetoes jury, chiropractor assistant legislation

Gov. Brian Sandoval has vetoed bills dealing with chiropractor assistants and grounds for disqualifying jurors in civil trials.

Senate Bill 421 would have required courts to dismiss a challenged juror if the judge determined the juror was “more likely than not” to be biased against one party or another.

In his veto message Saturday, Sandoval said the law would restrict the court’s discretion and burden the jury-selection process.

Senate Bill 198 was aimed at allowing chiropractor assistants to perform some procedures if they are under the director supervision of a licensed chiropractor.

Sandoval said he vetoed the bill because qualifications to become an assistant are minimal and insufficient to allow them to treat patients.
