A party of Boston tourists came into town yesterday from Lake Bigler — came in with Hank Monk on Benton’s stage. By the quantity of dust they brought upon them, we reckon they got a full initiation into the dreadful discomforts of riding over the Bigler grade with a wind astern.

130 years ago

There was a large gathering at the race track and the races, betting all were up to their regular standard of excitement. Morgan, Selon, Tom and Carson were entered for the trotting race and E. Winnie neatly upset the calculations of the sports by distancing the field in the first heat.

100 years ago

The police of Reno yesterday made a raid on a resort resulting in rounding up ten people who were laying. There is no word on the bond. While Reno police are making a record it looks like their net was set for some pretty small fry.

70 years ago

In a double-header, the Rotary team versus the Ship Bar and Pathfinder versus Ken’s Flyers will open the capitol city’s softball season tomorrow night at Carson High School. The evening will be highlighted by a short announcement by Mayor C.B. Austin. Gov. E.P. Carville will pitch the opening ball.

50 years ago

Richard Kurtz and Linda Faville received the coveted American Legion Certificate of School Award during the eighth grade graduation ceremonies at Carson Junior High School.

Carson City may be the site of a new Kmart Super Store, according to a local developer.
