140 years ago

Four men have lost their lives in four months in White Pine county. The last was the most deplorable act we have recorded. On Wednesday, a slight misunderstanding occurred between the wife of Robert W. Benefiel and the sister of William Crary during which both men were drawn into the discussion. Benefiel left and returned for his gun, which he had left inside the cabin. Crary, seeing Benefiel outside the house let loose with a double-barreled shotgun, killing him instantly.

Robinson’s Circus is coming to town. Among the attractions are a tattooed woman, a jabberwock that sweats blood, a baboon who plays the piano, a gorilla who plays poker like Gov. Adams, a giant with a single motion drives an enormous tent pole nine feet into the ground and Madam Joseph, a woman of great strength that requires to trained elephants to pull her out of bed in the morning.

The Goldfield Tribune tells of the death of a former Carson City boy, found at a mining camp on the T. & T. R. R. with a bullet in his head. Chester Pray was the surviving son of the late Captain Pray. He was 36 years old at the time of his death.

The softball game was nip and tuck between the Pathfinder Flying Service and the Rotary Club last night until the sixth inning when the Rotarians forged ahead with eight runs, cinching the game 13-4.
