After going 0-3 in pool play on Saturday, the Nevada WildCats won three straight games to win the Sierra Summer Classic at Golden Eagle Regional Park last weekend.
The WildCats managed just five hits on Saturday in going 0-3. On Sunday, they smashed 29 hits en route to the three wins. The comeback started with a 11-7 win over the top-seeded Nevada Nitro. The WildCats then edged the Nevada Comets 4-1 and wrapped up the title with a 9-4 win over the Valley Heat,
Kaitlyn Jimmy won the opener in the circle against the Nitro and then saved the second game for Felicia Marietta, who worked the first five innings. Jimmy got the win in the title game with Marietta recording the save.
Megan and McKenzie Hospodka, both of whom will play fr WNC next season, went 4-for-12 and 4-for 11, respectively. Megan Hospodka scored three run, while McKenzie Hospodka scored four runs and also homered. Kyla Duggins went 5-for-13 with three homers, whle Daisy Cueva went 5-for-14 and scored twice. Maddi Parks went 4-for-12 with six runs, while Kindra Ryals went 3-for-9 with a triple and four runs. Valarie Quam and Kelsie Callahan each went 3-for-14 and Megan Goodale homered.
Coach Jennifer Quam was happy with the way her team performed, especially after just two practices.
“This team will only get better,” coach Quam said. Strong pitching, hitting and defense is all a coach can ask for.”
Rogers, Roscha win
Dan Rogers and Vic Roscha shot a net 47 to win the Empire Ranch Senior Men’s Club event at Wolf Run on June 5.
John Masiello and Nck Paul were second with a 52, while Joseph O’Brien and blind bogey were third at 54. Roger Maxwell, Kerry Stone, Dave Knighton and Rich Ziegler won closest-to-the-hole honors.
Talmant, Silsby triumph
Alex Talmant and Jim Silsby won Flight 1 at the ISP Flighted event for the Silver Oak Senior Men’s Club on June 4. Bill Challenger, Lew Dodgion and Terry Thomas were second.
Doug Smeltzer and Wilbur Keating were the Flight 2 winners, while Tom Keating was second. Bob Lewis, Silsby, D. Meisenheimer, Talmant and Dodgion were closest-to-the-hole winners.
Tie for top spot at T. Canyon
The quartet of Barbee Waldren, Mary Lou Boardman, Jeanne Brennan and Jean West tied Becky Martinelli, Virginia Bnar, Joann Sheerin and Jona Kremp for first place at the Thunder Canyon Ladies Club Shamble event on June 6. Both teams finished with an 86.
Claudia Goodnight, Pam Whalen, Lynn Greer and Ellen Ewing shot 84. Kremp and Martinelli were closest-to-the-hole winners.
Sear and Tack win tourney
Steve Sear and Alan Tack shot 214 to win the Pat Garrett Flight of the Member-Member Roundup Cha-Cha and Reverse Cha-Cha Tournament at Thunder Canyon on June 7-8.
Dave Mello and Rob Jennings were second at 219 followed by Dave Nielsen and Larry Greenman at 222.
Bob Oglesby and Bob Pike won the Billy the Kid Flight with a 215, one stroke better than Mike Judge and Mike McGee. Bob Gates and Bill Waldren were third at 217. John Anderson, Judge, Tom Brennan and Greg Martinelli won closest-to-the-hole honors.
Christensen fivesome wins pro-am
Rick Christensen, Greg Peters, Roman Mudd, Nick Frank and Daren Vila shot a 130 to win the Pro-Am at Thunder Canyon on June 10.
Mike Paul, Ron Rose, Don Braselton, Richard Sachs and Bob Hamilton were second at 137 along with Fred Elliot, Dustin Mantha, Don Kovisto, Steve Bombard and Frank Mansfield.
Steve Hummel was low pro at 74, followed by Paul with a 75 and Joey Dendary with a 77.
Poe wins CVGC event
Charles Poe shot a net 57 to lead Flight A at the Presidents Cup at Carson Valley Golf Club on June 9. The next round is June 16.
Roger Hala was second with a 59, while Augie Martinez and Jack Spearman tied for third at 62. John Carey won Flight B with a 61, one shot better than Bruce Sanford and two better than Jack Zippwald.
Sanford won closest-to-the-hole.
Club looking for ATV riders
