Obituary: Everett O. Oliver

Everett O. Oliver, Jr., age 82, passed away on May 17, 2013 following a brief illness. He was born on August 11, 1930 in Chickasha, OK to Everett O. Oliver, Sr., and Mary E. Hendrick-Oliver. Both had preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Laura Lee Tadlock and Shirley Marie Crain, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. During his growing up years, his father’s occupation took them to Texas and then later on California. In California, he attended high school and graduated from Whittier High School. Everett is survived by his wife, Shirley Herdlitza-Oliver. His sons, Gregory (Rae), Richard and Matthew Oliver; and daughter, Pamela Martin (Jim). Step-children, Cheryl (Wayne) Benefield and Laura Sanford, who preceded him in death.

Grandchildren, Daniel and Stacy Oliver, Ryan and Heather Oliver, Todd and Gary Oliver, Michelle, Jacob, and Mitchell Martin. Step-grandchildren, Jennifer Benefield (Mike), Megan (Mike) Davidson, Dustin and Amanda Heckart. Several great-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great grandchild.

Everett was a machinist by trade and with the help of his parents set up his own machine shop in September 1965. After retiring, he came to Carson City in 1992, he sold the business to Shirley Herdlitka. He chose to continue working as a consultant and acting general manager. Arthur Kilgroe, a longtime employee in Oliver Machine Products, elected to also come to Carson City and continued to work with Everett and Shirley. Debbie Allred joined the business allowing Shirley to retire. Her brother, Vern Allred was always the one they called on when they needed help.

He loved classic cars and had some that he restored and others that are work in restoring. He won several trophies and plaques on the cars that he showed in various car meets. He was a member of the Battleborn Early V-8 Ford Club and also a member of the Sagebrush Model A Club.

Everett loved to tell stories of his growing up years, and many other events in his life. Mostly he liked to talk about their German Shepherd (Teddi Beara) who went to the shop everyday for ten years.

A memorial service is planned for June 21, 2013 at 1:00 pm at FitzHenry’s Chapel of Faith in Carson City. You are welcome to attend the service and stay for a buffet and good memories.
