Stephen A. Hays passed away as peacefully as he lived his life on May 14, 2013. Stephen was born on January 8, 1922 in Monet, MO, to Harry and Hazel Hays. He spent his childhood in Iowa and received his BS in Chemistry from Iowa State College. He earned his MS in Chemical Engineering at the University of California at Berkeley prior to enlisting in the United States Army Air Corps, where he served as a B-24 Pilot in the Pacific during World War II. He spent many years as a chemist in the aerospace industry and retired from Rockwell International in Southern California in 1987.
Stephen and his loving wife, Nadine, moved to Carson City in 2004 where he became a member of American Legion Post 56 and served on the Honor Guard as the Bugler until his passing. He loved to travel and was a kind and gentle soul.
Stephen is survived by his wife, Nadine; his daughter, Debe Hays-Vaughn of Carson City; his son, Doug Hays (Wendy) of Carson City; his grandsons, Stephen Hays of Spokane, WA, Mike Hays of Las Vegas, NV, Jon Hays of Las Vegas, NV and his great granddaughter, Mowgli Hays of Las Vegas, NV. He is also survived by many loving family members and friends.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2013, 12 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Carson City. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Capital City Circles, 2621 Northgate Ln., #10, Carson City, NV 89706.
