Editor of the Appeal — The fact that colored children were part of the public school examination is well worth recording in your paper. If you could add a few words in an editorial, telling the world of this full and cheerful recognition of the equal rights of colored people has been obtained in the Capitol of Nevada in popular education would be appreciated. Mr. C.P. Mason, long-time purchasing agent for the railroad and future co-partner with a Salt Lake City firm in a mining venture, was treated last night to a crowd of some 50 people who presented him with a silver set. One man said: “Its daily use will be a constant reminder that you have left behind a host of friends who feel assured that with your ability, industry and integrity, you will be socially and financially successful ... and they will be always grateful to hear of your happiness.”

100 years ago

The first water from Lake Tahoe came down the Truckee River Sunday after the Truckee General Electric company opened its gates. The company hopes to keep the flow uniform. No waste will be permitted.

70 years ago

The teeth of every Nevada school child has been inspected and cleaned during the last year, according to Dr. E.E. Hamer, secretary of the state board of health.

(Photo Caption) A huge steel claw at the end of a shovel starts demolition work on the old stone buildings at Sunny Acres Children’s Home. The buildings were constructed in 1903 and were determined last October as unsafe.

Military Days at the Douglas County Airport offers a chance for nostalgia. The Nevada Air and Military Museum Association says the program will offer much needed funding for $2.3 million construction budget.
