Minden woman sentenced to 45 days for stealing gold ring from employer

A Minden woman was sentenced Tuesday morning in District Court to 45 days in jail after she stole a ring from Kohl’s, where she was working at the time.

Judge James Wilson also required Annmarie Flamm to complete drug court, as part of a diversion program.

“You’re off to a pretty rocky start,” Wilson told Flamm, 29. “You’re younger than I am, but it’s not like you’re 18.”

The prosecution argued for a year to more than 2½ years in prison; it was allowed to argue after Flamm failed to appear at her original sentencing Feb. 12.

“I think it is a fair sentence and I think she earned it,” Deputy District Attorney Travis Lucia said.

The defense argued that Flamm’s car broke down, that she had no money for gas and no ride to court in February.

“She does have kind of a rough start,” Defense Attorney Mihaela Neagos told the court. “She’s already a drug addict, and drugs are the reason she’s in front of you today. She’s been battling (drugs and alcohol) for a very long time.”

Wilson said he hoped the 45-day sentence, along with the time she had already been in jail, would give her 60 days of sobriety and “provide structure for you, to get you through the rest of the process.”

Carson man arraigned in trafficking case

Also this week, a 27-year-old Carson City man was arraigned Monday in District Court on a charge of trafficking a schedule 1 controlled substance between 4 and 14 grams.

Eduardo Segura was arrested, sentenced and deported in 2009 following a gang-related shooting, according to the arrest report and police records. He was arrested on the new charge Feb. 8 at Hot Springs Road and Roop Street.

Segura pleaded not guilty through an interpreter and told the court he is not a U.S. citizen. His trial is set to start July 9 and last three days.
