The Carson City Chapter 388 of the Vietnam Veterans of America will mark Vietnam Veterans Day in a ceremony and social gathering starting at 5 p.m. March 30 at the Vietnam Memorial in the southeast corner of Mills Park.
After the ceremony, a Welcome Home social will be at the High Sierra Brewery Company, 302 N. Carson St., at 5:30 p.m. with free appetizers, and no-host bar.
President Barack Obama declared March 29, 2012, as “Vietnam Veterans Day” with the intent of making this day an annual event to pay tribute and honor to the soldiers who served in the Vietnam War.
“More than a half century later, those who served, and those who died, fighting the Vietnam War will receive an annual day of recognition honoring their sacrifice and service,” said Rick Arnold, head of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Carson Area Chapter 388.
“I can’t tell you how much this means to the men and women who served in Vietnam, as well as their families. I encourage everyone to join us in Mills Park and afterwards at the Brewery to mark this day of recognition and honor.”
