HENDERSON — College of Southern Nevada swept Western Nevada in a Scenic West Athletic Conference doubleheader, 11-2 and 8-3, Friday afternoon.

The teams meet in a season-ending doubleheader today at noon. The SWAC post-season tournament starts Wednesday at College of Southern Idaho, and WNC will face either Snow or Southern Nevada in the first round.

“I felt like we were putting the bat on the ball, but we couldn’t string any hits together,” WNC coach Leah Wentworth said. “We had a tough time keeping them off balance at the plate. They adjusted really well at the plate.”

In the 11-2 loss, CSN scored six in the first two innings off starter/loser Carlee Beck. Ali Lostra worked the next two and gave up five runs, four earned.

CSN led 8-0 before WNC got on the board in the fourth with singles by Alish Nielsen, Madison Gonzales, Lostra and Alia Cox. CSN scored three in the bottom of the inning to make it 11-2.

Lostra led WNC with two hits, while Jenny Quam, Jenny Rechel, Nielsen, Gonzales and Alia Cox added a hit each. Cox drove in both runs.

In the 8-3 loss, CSN bolted to a 4-0 lead and was never headed. Lostra took the loss.

Nielsen and Gonzales each had three hits to lead the Wildcats, and Heather Septon added two. Lostra had the only RBI for WNC.

PREP BASEBALL PLAYOFFS

Carson High (7-15) will meet Bishop Manogue (17-5) in the opening round of the NIAA Division I baseball playoffs on Tuesday at Bishop Manogue.

In other games, Damonte Ranch (16-6) will host Galena (16-6); Reno (16-6) will host Reed (14-8) and Spanish Springs (16-6) will host Douglas (13-9.) All first-round games start at 4 p.m.

The Senators, who ended the season losing eight straight games, will be a decided underdog against the heavy hitting Miners, who won the two regular-season contests, 13-0 and 14-3. Although Carson coach Bryan Manoukian hasn’t named a starter, it most likely will be Jace Zampirro or Charlie Banfield. Chase Blueberg is also a possibility, but he did throw Thursday at Douglas.

If Carson were to win the opener, it would visit the Damonte-Galena winner Wednesday at 4 p.m. If the Senators lose, they will face the Galena-Damonte loser.

After playing at home sites on Tuesday and Wednesday, the tournament will shift to Wooster and Reno for the final three days of action.

PREP SWIMMING

The Carson and Douglas swim teams will participate in the league meet at 9 a.m. today at the Carson Aquatic Center.

The top qualifiers from the league meets will advance to next weekend’s regional meet, also slated for Carson.

PREP SOFTBALL

DOUGLAS SWEEPS WOOSTER

RENO — Douglas swept Wooster, 5-3 and 6-2, in the final regular-season games for both teams.

Douglas improved to 20-10 overall and 12-4 in league.

Kali Sargent scattered 11 hits in the opener to pick up the win. She struck out eight and walked three. Makayla Shaver drove in two runs with a homer, while Leonna Mortimer doubled and drove in a run.

In the second game, Douglas rallied for five runs in the top of the seventh to wipe out a 2-1 deficit.

Kaitlyn Bowman went 2-for-4 and pitched an 8-hitter to get the win. Kelly Sonnemann drove in two runs to lead the offense.

DAYTON SWEPT

WINNEMUCCA — Lowry blanked Dayton, 10-0 and 2-0, to win the mini-series 2-0 and advance into the NIAA 1A playoffs. No other information was provided.
