Kipling, Showalter lead CHS boys

Fifteen Carson High swimmers have moved on to the NIAA Division I regional swimming finals today at the Carson Aquatic Center.

Swimming gets under way at 11 a.m. today. The top three finishers in each event qualify for the state championships May 18, also at the Carson Aquatic Center.

On the boys side, Dagen Kipling qualified third in both the 200 IM (2:10.09) and the 500 free (5:15.15), while Gary Showalter was second in the 100 back (1:06.21) and sixth in the 50 free (53.78). Tallon Rauch qualified fourth in the 100 back (59.04) and was sixth in the 100 butterfly (59.77). Casey Garrett grabbed the final qualifying spot in the 100 fly (1:00.92) and Cory Gentner was seventh in the 50 free (25.45) and eighth in the 100 free (55.57).

The Carson girls were led by Abi Pittman and Vanessa Rauch, who qualified in two events apiece.

Pittman was fourth in the 500 free at 5:30.60, while qualifying eighth in the 200 free (2:26.38). Vanessa Rauch was sixth in the 100 back (1:08.27) and seventh in the 100 free (59.62). Eli Everest was third in the 200 free at 2:04.08 and Sophie Holmes was seventh-fastest in the 50 free (27.15).

The Douglas Tigers, who won nine indvidual titles at last week’s league meet, got wins from Shelby Koontz in the 50 free (24.79) and the 100 free (54.00). Shaelin Morefield qualified first in the 100 fly (1:00.08) and second in the 200 IM (2:12.45).

Kyle Johnston was second in the 200 IM (2:09.01) and the 100 fly (56.01). Janosch Lancster was second in the 200 free (1:55.06) and third in the 100 back (58.86).

Relays are finals only events and will be swam today.
