Elko man pleads guilty to attempted battery charge

An Elko man pleaded guilty to attempted battery causing substantial bodily harm Tuesday morning in Carson City district court.

Thomas Caudill faces a varying range of penalties depending on if the judge decides at sentencing the charge should be a gross misdemeanor or a felony. Were it to be treated as a felony, Caudill could face up to four years in prison and a $5,000 fine. If classified as a gross misdemeanor, he would face up to a year in the Carson City Jail and up to a $2,000 fine.

He was arrested July 1, 2012, on suspicion of kidnapping with a deadly weapon and assault with a deadly weapon after three victims told deputies he threatened them with a knife at a party, ushered the three into a back yard, threw the knife over his shoulder toward one of the victims and then locked a sliding glass door, according to the arrest report. Sentencing is set for 9 a.m. Aug. 5.

ALSO IN DISTRICT COURT TUESDAY

• Theresa Crowley pleaded guilty to Tuesday morning to conspiracy to violate the uniform controlled substance act. She will be sentenced at 9 a.m. July 1 and faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

• Joel Germain, of Carson City, pleaded not guilty to uttering a forged instrument. His trial was set for July 15.

• Kevin Harward, 49, of Carson City, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to violate the uniform controlled substance act. Sentencing was set for July 1.

• Stefan Houser pleaded guilty to uttering a forged instrument. Sentencing was set for 9 a.m. July 9.

• Christopher Coston pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance and Judge James Russell sentenced him to a year to four years in prison, to run concurrent with a case in Washoe County.

• Aaron Clack pleaded guilty to grand larceny and receiving or transferring a stolen vehicle. As part of his plea agreement, he previously pleaded guilty to a count of possession of stolen property. He will be sentenced on June 18 at 9 a.m.
