Circus: A great big mammoth circus and menagerie “New York and New Orleans Zoological Exposition” from over the Plains is on its way here … There ain’t a boy in all Carson, Empire, Clear Creek, Jack’s Valley and a way up to Spooner’s that hasn’t salted the coins away. They know just how many lions, tigers, monkeys and trick mules there are — how the band wagon looks and how the boys who turn flip flaps and expose their spangles to an admiring world oil themselves to be limber.

Rites for Centennial: The 5,788 word constitution was sent to President Abraham Lincoln at a cost of $3,416.77. He approved it and proclaimed statehood for Nevada on Oct. 31, 1864. Sen. Alan Bible has suggested that the Western Union Telegraph Co. recreate the transmission from Carson City to Washington, D.C. as part of next year’s centennial celebration.
